Levi Heywood Memorial Library
The Levi Heywood Memorial Library Association in Gardner, MA chose NETCO Construction Project Managers, Inc. to oversee the construction of their new 32,000 square foot library building. The two-story structure is a steel frame structure with an exterior masonry façade. The new library was constructed on a Brownfields site (a site that has the presence of a hazardous substance or contaminant) where a large furniture manufacturing facility was originally located.
The library is an important anchor building for the revitalization of Gardner’s former manufacturing district on the city’s east side. The project had several uncharacteristic components including: the construction of a support of excavation system, the removal of several thousand yards of contaminated soil and water materials, and the installation of a sub grade foundation vapor barrier system.
NETCO’s professional staff brought their experience in conventional building construction to this project and applied their expertise in foundation, geotechnical and environmental construction—all important elements for the new Levi Heywood Memorial Library.
